The Calimazoo 2 is an all tube amplifier. The tube compliment is: ECC83 preamp, ECC83 Tremolo oscillator, and an EL84 output, all are JJ tubes.
The features in the amplifier are:
Solid state B+ supply. I believe that in class “A” output circuits, a tube rectifier has no real advantage because the load is relatively constant so there is no “sag” in the B+ voltage. By going solid state, the amp and the power transformer run cooler. Also, more power is available for audio, instead of heat, because the B+ is a littler higher, an extra 30 volts.
A Standby switch was added to the center tap of the high voltage secondary winding on the power transformer, so in standby the B+ is completely removed.
A heavier gauge aluminum chassis was used instead of the thin steel chassis.
Transformer Line Out was added on the back panel, with Level control and Ground/Lift switch. This output is directly across the speaker, so you hear the full tone of the amp. Also, by unplugging the speaker, an 8.2 ohm 10 watt resistor is connected across the speaker line so the amp can be used as a silent preamp for recording or so you can hear yourself through a monitor coming back from the PA. Also, a Depth control has been added to the back of the amp chassis with a 1/4" jack for Tremolo on/off. Amp now comes with a matching wood footswitch assembly.
Internal metal shield over input circuit, to minimize hum pickup from outside sources.
Clean point to point hand wiring using terminal strips, NO boards with eyelets in this amplifier.
